about the artist

​Alexandra Stephens was raised in Valencia, California in the colorful shadow of Cal Arts. Her studies under Jerrold Ballaine at UC Berkeley and her work with Bob Bruman, a Bay Area painter, introduced her to the denotative expressionism of the Bay Area Figurative Movement, an influence which informs her work today. As a painter, she is interested in portraying movement on a static plane, and delights in the happy accidents that bring freshness and spontaneity to her work.
